What inspires me is the mystery of life. My life has been a consistent journey toward my own self awareness in relation to this life mystery.

I am a ‘closet’ writer through the process of journaling. Over the years I have written extensive accounts of my life experiences, and feelings, ranging from the depth of grief to the bounty of joy. Some journals I have kept, others I have burned in a ceremonial fire, to provide the closure of chapters of my life. I am eternally grateful for my journal, it’s my best friend, it has gotten me through emotional upset, self degradation, worries about my children, the pain of divorce, and the journey of grief. It has taught me about the love I hold in my heart for all humanity. It has brought me to my spiritual expression and clarity of my life path.

I am in gratitude for my life and the magnitude of that mystery continues to grow with every passing year. More recently, the mystery of life also included death. In an 8 month time period, I experienced a significant number of deaths within my family. I lost what I feel has been the most significant relationship in my life…my Mom. She gifted me with the experience of being with her in the final hours of her life. I, with my family, watched her pass away. The experience was so profound for me I turned to my journal to help in processing my feelings. The following poem was written:

I, Witness

I, witness the breath, labored…
I, witness the inhale, grasped
I, witness the breath slowing
I, witness the breath calming
I, witness the breath pausing
I, witness the distance in the next inhale
I, witness the peace in the exhale
I, witness the breath exhale & stop
I, witness the spirit lift and fly
I, witness my Mom’s passing
I, witness the breath, her breath, her life.
I, witness…
